For sea freight of chemicals (dangerous goods), IMDG Code regulates shipping methods, loding ways, and container and packaging instructions. They are classified in the following nine classes by the kinds of danger.

For transportation for dangerous goods
In Japan, except the goods prohibited to be loaded onto vessels, dangerous items can be shipped in accordance with the rules on the Regulations for the Carriage and Storage of Dangerous Goods by Ship and other relating regulations. In that case, the shipper needs to submit document, such as Declaration of Dangerous Goods detailing the description of the items to the shipowner or the captain of the ship. Also, the customer needs to determine the class of the goods, and pack in the regulated container on the shipper's responsibility.
